What is a favourite moment you’ve experienced in your practice so far?
The Series: Series 1 || Episode 1
“A favourite moment has to be whenever achieving settlement for a client. Litigation is not a blood sport and you can fight for your client’s rights without being unreasonable. Advancing to a full trial and incurring a mountain of costs for your client should always be the last resort.
When liasing with the other side it is easy to get caught up in the long exchanges of words and emails, but uou can be courteous and a good litigator; the two are not mutually exclusive”
What is a new piece of legislation that you’ve recently studied?
The Series: Series 1 || Episode 1
“Part 1 Economic Crime (Transparency and Enforcement) Act 2022, came into force on 1 August 2022. The ROE (Register of Overseas Entities) is a new register, maintained by the registrar of companies in England and Wales. Overseas entities that own property in the UK must register on the ROE by 31 January 2023 or else the entity and its officers may be liable to a fine, imprisonment or both.
It’s primary aim is to crack down on anonymous foreign entities by identifying their beneficial owners and prevent them from hiding behind shell companies to purchase property in the U.K. as a means to money launder.
In my everyday practice I serve many overseas clients. The rush to register on ROE before the end of the month has been busy, but necessary, to ensure their compliance with the Act and to protect their ability to buy or sell property or land in the U.K. in the future.”

THANK YOU!
A friend for over ten years and an incredibly hard working advocate.
Continue to strive for success in your practice, Kayla!
